Referee Code of Conduct
PURPOSE
The purpose of this Code of Conduct is:
To declare the standard and guidelines of behaviour required of all Referees, Judges and Officials of MMA Officials.
To declare the type of behaviour that MMA Officials consider inappropriate and contrary to the interest of the sport, and which are subject to disciplinary proceedings including, suspension or expulsion from MMA Officials and MMA Officials Sanctioned events.
APPLICATION
All Referees, Judges, Officials, Representatives and Employees of MMA Officials will be bound by this code. For the purpose of implementation all Referees, Judges, Officials, Representatives and Employees of MMA Officials shall sign a copy of this code.
INAPROPIATE BEHAVIOR
This list describes behaviours which are not in the best interest of MMA Officials or Mixed Martial Arts in general, and which may result in disciplinary proceedings to suspend or expel a member, as provided in the Constitution of MMA Officials.
- Abusing, denigrating, harassing or attempting to intimidate any athlete, coach or official.
- Discrimination or offensive behaviour related to the race, colour, religion, age, sexual orientation or gender of any person.
- Creating a public disturbance at any meeting or event organized or sanctioned by MMA Officials.
- Consumption of alcohol or recreational drugs by a Referee, Judge, Official, Representative or Employee of MMA Officials, on the day of an event prior to the conclusion of that persons duties
- Sexual relations with a junior athlete (aged under 18). Such relations are absolutely forbidden irrespective of the wishes and desires of the athlete.
- Failure to act in accordance with the lawful directions of the MMA Officials Board.
- Unlawful conduct by a Referee, Judge, Official, Representative or Employee of MMA Officials whether or not resulting in police charge, where the Board considers that the conduct to be prejudicial to the sport.
Any person with a conviction for a sexual offence against a child is precluded from gaining an MMA Officials license and any member so convicted shall have his or her MMA Officials license terminated.
REGULATIONS & OBLIGATIONS
- As a Referee, Judge or Official I will enforce the current MMA Competition Rules in a fair and impartial manner, showing no favoritism to one competitor over another competitor.
- Competitor safety is of the utmost concern as I perform my duties as a referee.
- I will conduct myself as a professional in all my actions during an MMA Competition Event.
- I will not fraternize with athletes and/or coaches to the detriment of maintaining the appearance of fairness and lack of bias to all who may see me.
- I will not accept favours of any kind in return for my actions as a Referee, Judge or Official.
- I will maintain proper physical conditioning in order to be able to perform my duties and responsibilities as a Referee, Judge and Official.
- I will accept critiques from supervisors in order to improve my abilities as a Referee, Judge or Official.
- I am an ambassador for MMA Officials and, as such, I must perform my duties in a firm and professional manner, using tact and diplomacy as needed.
- I will abide by all decisions made by the Referee Chairperson(s) and/or Head Referee.
- I will perform all my duties as assigned to me by the Referee Chairperson(s) and/or Head Referee to the best of my ability.
- My personal interest shall not interfere with my duty as a selected Referee, Judge or Official.
- I will be on time for all meetings and schedule events.
I will not leave the competition, meetings, or schedule events until the Referee Chairperson(s) and/or Head Referee has dismissed me.
